About

Pandit Debasish Bhattacharya is recognised throughout India as the senior-most disciple of late sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. Born in 1963 in a musical family, Debasish started his musical training at the early age of 5 under his father late Shyam Sundar Bhattacharya, a sitarist. A few years later, Debasish moved to learning the sarod from Pandit Ravi Laha, a disciple of Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra. He became a disciple of Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta in 1981 and received extensive thorough training from the maestro until his passing in January 2018. Along with this training, he has become recognised as one of the most promising Sarodiyas in India and a prominent torch-bearer of the Senia-Shahjahanpur Gharana.

Debasish has earned accolades from his performances at premier music conferences all over India, such as the Prayag Sangit Samity annual convocation at Allahabad, Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad conference in Bhopal, and the Vishnu Digambar Jayanti festival in New Delhi, to name a few. He is also a top-graded Sarodiya on All India Radio and a lecturer at Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta. He has been working at the university since 1993.
